Over 80 species of seabirds breed on NZ's shores, and over 30% are found nowhere else. Albatrosses are found on subantarctic islands, with the royal albatross breeding at Taiaroa Head, Otago. Penguins on the mainland include the little blue, yellow-eyed, Fiordland crested, and on islands are other crested species. Gannets, gulls, terns, shearwaters, petrels, cape pigeons, and migratory birds such as godwits, live here. Shore birds include the dotterel, stilt and oystercatcher.
