Colin Monteath has guided two successful crossings of South Georgia on the same route used in 1916 by Sir Ernest Shackleton, Frank Worsley and Tom Crean. The routes traverses severe alpine terrain and heavily crevassed glaciers from King Haakon Bay to Stromness whaling station. Colin's third attempt at a crossing ended with a blizzard near the Trident ridge, forcing a retreat to Possession bay. " For scientific discovery give me Scott: for speed and efficiency give me Amundsen; but when disaster strikes and all hope is gone, get down on your knees and pray for Shackleton." Sir Raymond Priestley.
